This is responsible professional work coordinating plan review, zoning, permitting inspections and other code related activities in the City’s Construction Services and Permitting Division. Work involves commercial and residential plan review, approval of building permit applications; enforcement of applicable codes and ordinances; participating in the selection, placement, training, promotion, safety, appraisal and discipline of assigned employees; handling complaints, frequently of a delicate nature, necessitating the exercise of considerable judgment, tact and firmness when consulting with municipal officials, contractors, design professionals, builders and the general public; developing and implementing divisional policies and procedures; conducting occasional site visits in order to investigate a complaint or determine a resolution; and studying new materials, methods and applications of building construction to keep abreast of modern developments.
Salary: $33.93 - $54.35 Hourly

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:
Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
Possess, at the time of application, and continue to maintain standard or provisional plan review licenses from the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation in at least two trades (Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, or Electrical) - or - must be able to obtain the licenses within 12 (twelve) months of appointment to the position or be a licensed architect or engineer in the state of Florida.
Have thorough knowledge of municipal codes, building codes, ordinances and administrative regulations governing the construction, maintenance, and alteration of commercial and residential structures.
Be able to interpret and explain applicable codes, regulations, and policies to contractors, homeowners, design professionals, other regulatory agencies, and the general public.
Be able to read and interpret plans, specifications, and blueprints.
Be skilled in the use of a personal computer to keep records, conduct research, communicate via email, and prepare reports and correspondence.
Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:
Possess standard or provisional plan review licenses in all disciplines from the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation or be a licensed architect or engineer in the state of Florida.
Have some supervisory experience.
Have considerable experience in building construction or experience as a building inspector or contractor.
Have thorough knowledge of the principles, methods, and materials involved in the construction industry.
Have some knowledge of the legal procedures related to enforcement of City Codes, ordinances, and other related codes.
