South Mountain isn't your average employer.
We’re on a mission to make the world better through business.
Our success is fueled by a genuine love for this work and each other. We show up as our authentic selves, lean on one another for support, practice open/honest communication, and laugh often.
We believe that every individual contributes meaningfully to the whole. Performance and craft are valued and rewarded. We promote from within whenever possible.
Our system of governance is more transparent and decentralized than most. All are encouraged to make decisions, accept responsibility, and question the decisions of others. The best idea always prevails, no matter who or where it came from. The collective shares both risks and rewards.
We go above and beyond to show up for our clients, our community, and our environment – in the here-and-now and through long-term thinking. (How do we make this the best place possible for our children and grandchildren?)
Here’s what our employees... have to say about life at South Mountain:
“SMCo is not an inward-facing company. We are committed to improving the lives of our employees, their families, our community, and our planet. To have these values at the forefront of our work makes every day meaningful.”
“My colleagues are extremely entertaining and clever! I appreciate the amount of laughter we share. That positive atmosphere makes us all more productive and successful.”
“SMCo job sites combine rich skills, tools, design, and materials with a natural landscape unparalleled by most on this planet. They are the ideal environment to hone one’s craft.”
“This is a big small company! The opportunity for ownership, being a part of something bigger, gaining equity beyond compensation. . . they enhance the daily experience.”
“When I tell someone I work for SMCo, I feel proud and recognized. Martha’s Vineyard is a small community, and it feels good to be associated with such a well-known and trusted company.”
“Working at SMCo has allowed me to be the parent I want to be. I have the flexibility to be present for my family while at the same time satisfying my personal and professional desires. It truly provides the work-life balance that so many of us crave!”
