The University of North Alabama’s College of Arts, Sciences, & Engineering invites applications for a full-time appointment in Interior Architecture and Design as a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor or Non-Tenure-Track Lecturer, depending on the successful candidate's qualifications. This position is expected to begin in Fall 2025. The program holds accreditation from the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
The essential duties of this position will include teaching a standard teaching load of studio and lecture classes; developing instructional materials, advising and mentoring students; developing a strong research and creative scholarship portfolio which includes curriculum development and ongoing scholarly work that incorporates undergraduate students (Assistant Professor only); take an active role in program assessment; maintain knowledge of current trends in the field; be committed to the engagement and recruitment of students; active participation in student advisement; providing service at the department, college, and/or university level(s); support the University’s mission by acting as an ambassador of the program and department; and be willing to work as a collegial team member as well as a community resource when appropriate.
Applicants for the Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position must hold a terminal degree (Ph.D., M.F.A., M.Arch or equivalent) in Interior Architecture, Interior Design, Architecture, or a closely related field. This individual should demonstrate a strong potential for scholarly or creative work, evidence of effective teaching, a background in professional practice and/or research in interior architecture and design. NCIDQ certification is preferred or willingness and ability to obtain such at the time of/or after appointment. Familiarity with CIDA accreditation guidelines is required.
Applicants for the Lecturer position must hold a master’s degree in Interior Architecture, Interior Design, Architecture, or a related discipline, with at least 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching discipline. Preference may be given to candidates that have: significant professional work experience in the field of interior design; proficiency in free-hand sketching, Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, and rendering programs; LEED-accredited or WELL-certified.
