Job Summary:

Reporting to the Managing Director, Component Engagement, the Director, Component  Leadership Development Programs will serve as the lead developer and executor of all leadership and association management content for component staff and volunteers. The Director will work closely with the AIA team and components to identify and understand unique needs.  Using a multi-channel engagement approach, the Director will meet those needs by developing and delivering content to improve organizational effectiveness to elevate their capacity to lead their organization, grow membership, engage stakeholders, and deliver consistent programs and events for AIA members.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Serve as project manager and co-leader of all content at the annual AIA Leadership Summit, an in-person event focused on advocacy and leadership development for leaders at the national, state, and local levels.
• Develop all content and events in conjunction with the annual CACE (Council of Architectural Component Executives) Annual Meeting, an in-person event focused on association management and professional development for component staff.
• Utilize new ideas, technology and creativity to enhance attendees’ experiences at in-person and virtual events.
• Work with AIA staff to create a content calendar to improve awareness of AIA programs at the component level. 
• Develop and manage program budgets for component and leadership events.
• Assist in the onboarding of new component staff by developing video content and other virtual learning opportunities.
• Develop a component recognition program to celebrate successes amongst the network and increase best practice sharing.
• Serve as the liaison to the CACE Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging Work Group. Develop and execute plans to increase Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) efforts within components and coordinate activities, practices, and outcomes to help components become better advocates of diversity and inclusion.
• Works to infuse AIA goals and strategies through the programs and services offered to the component network.
• Develops and draws upon an understanding of the needs of AIA components to contribute to strategic discussions to meet their unique needs.
• Develops and fosters effective partnership relationships and communication with component leadership through proactive relationship management.
• Develops content in the areas of strategy and business planning, ensuring they are current, valued, and meet the needs and expectations of components.
• Maintains in-depth knowledge of industry trends and drives the process of identifying new and emerging work to support the collective growth and development of components.
• Leverage data from surveys, benchmarking reports, and component accreditation to identify and address gaps in alignment between all tiers of the Institute.
• Conduct onboarding of new component leaders and deliver resources that connect them to AIA centralized support services.
• Serve as an engaged and collaborative representative of AIA with members, prospects, and other relevant connections; strengthen relationships with individuals and institutions on behalf of AIA's strategic goals and priorities.

Basic Qualifications: 

• Experience working with components and delivering content that improves organizational excellence.
• Proficient organizational skills, attention to detail, and project management skills. 
• Experience with consensus building, negotiation, budget management, interpersonal, decision-making, and verbal/written communication skills essential.
• Demonstrated skills as a strategic and innovative thinker with the ability to solve problems and execute initiatives; synthesize data and transfer into actionable outcomes; and serve as an effective liaison between or among various groups, including the ability to engage in successful negotiation, collaboration, and conflict resolution.

Bachelor's degree in business, communications, marketing, or related discipline preferred.  Certified Association Executive (CAE) a plus. At least seven years of professional experience in non-profit association management, including chapter relations, marketing, engagement initiatives, and developing and implementing strategic planning initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong analytical skills and demonstrated understanding of individual member serving organization trends.
• Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) software.

Supervisory:

• This position has no supervisory responsibility.

Work Location:                                          100% Remote from the AIA Approved States : AR, DE, FL, GA, ID, IL, IA, KS, KY, ME, MI, MN, MT, NH, NM, NY, NC, OK, PA, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WY

                                                                         This position will periodically be required to be on-site at the AIA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. 

Travel Requirements:                                     Up to 20% travel required.
