The role of the Assistant/Associate Professor requires teaching, coordination, and curriculum development of core courses, seminars, and electives at the graduate and undergraduate levels in structural design, upper-level performance simulation, building construction and material systems as well as integrative architectural design studios. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a track record of scholarly achievements, creative activities, and professional practice.
Candidate responsibilities for a successful academic path will include teaching, research, and service. Essential will be the contribution to the School’s curricular development, building technology and design studio course sequences coordination, participation in program accreditation, student mentoring and advising, retention and recruitment initiatives, and service activities to the community, the SoAD, and the Institution.
The ideal candidate must demonstrate a track record of architectural design combined with technical expertise in structures, building construction, and materials. Important will be an evolving design research agenda supported by a professional practice to advance building and environmental technologies. Areas of emphasis include the integration of structural systems, building envelopes, materials, environmental systems, and performance modeling within courses and design studios and the development of innovative pedagogies facilitating the pursuit of new knowledge at the NYIT School of Architecture and Design. Applicants should have proficiency in the latest digital tools and methods used to evaluate building performance and systems. Certifications in sustainability and green building technologies are preferred. In addition, it will be desirable to have experience and interest in fabrication and emerging technologies.
The candidate will be expected to have an active role in the development of cross-disciplinary practice and research projects leading to the expansion of ongoing collaborations and partnerships within the institution, other universities, with the profession and the industry, nationally and internationally, contributing to NYIT’s excellence and the enhancement of NYIT’s reputation.
