The School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (SALA) at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver campus, invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in architectural design at the rank of Assistant Professor anticipated to begin 1 July 2023. This position will contribute expertise and intellectual leadership to architectural design studio teaching, research, scholarship, or creative practice and service within the School, the University and to the academic and professional community. While a successful applicant may teach across SALA’s graduate and undergraduate programs, principal teaching responsibilities will be in the Master of Architecture program. SALA seeks faculty with teaching and research expertise in architectural design, with possible supporting areas of focus including design theory and methods; design media and representation; digital fabrication; materials, material ecologies and assemblies; design and climate change. In addition to design studios, teaching assignments may include assignments in required and elective courses in design methods, design and environment, design visualization and representation, and other courses related to a candidate’s research, scholarship, and creative agenda.

Research and Teaching Leadership
The successful candidate will pursue a productive independent research, scholarship, and creative work agenda that advances architectural knowledge through design. Preference will be given to a candidate with professional experience in architectural design and/or the potential for recognized research that may include built work, theoretical explorations, advocacy, creative work, and/or scholarship in the form of publications, exhibitions, and grants. Candidates should demonstrate ability to integrate their research interests, creative work, or professional practice into their teaching, develop an innovative, preferably integrated, teaching and service portfolio that advances their research, scholarship and creative practice agenda, and informs design challenges of relevance to the school and to the region.
