DIRECTOR OF DESIGN

Min. Required Years of Experience: 15 years as Lead Designer         FLSA Status: Exempt

Min. Required Education: Degree in Architecture from NAAB accredited university.

Licensure: Required with an NCARB Certificate.

Level of Experience: Senior; 15 years with direct client contact in a lead designer role.

Reports to: President/CEO and COO

Level of Supervision: Works independent in all aspects of the design process with direct client contact.

General Description: 

• Responsible for programming, creative conceptual design while directing concepts for the firm.
• Coordinate and oversee all design activities, interface directly with clients and in-house staff to create design solutions which meet the client's needs, priorities, budgets, timelines, and aspirations.
• Must be able to interpret client wishes and needs and turn them into creative solutions while overseeing the design team and coordinating with architectural and engineering production staff.
• Must be able to create conceptual designs based upon programming studies, client design goals, city, state and federal regulations, and corporate brand design requirements.
• Supervise and oversee the firm's creative energy and bring it to focus on each project to the level that is required to meet the client's objectives.
• Must have strong, passionate, verbal presentation skills and be able to communicate and sell clients on the ultimate design direction for the project.
• Must be able to meet deadlines while inspiring the design team to ever better design solutions and presentation materials.
• Must exhibit a high-level of problem solving skills, conceptual visualization, design presentation material creation and leadership ability.

Communication Skills: Must have excellent written and oral presentation skills.

Level of Judgement Regarding Project Design: Independent judgement is expected.

Mentoring: More experienced personnel are expected to help less experienced personnel develop the skills needed to be quality LK employees at all positions.

Client Relationship: LK's primary contact for the design of the project.

Software: AutoCAD, Revit, Sketch-up

Travel: Travel required to performs duties as Project Architect/Project Manager is expected.

Performance Metrics: 

• Financial success of assigned projects as adjusted for special considerations.
• Client satisfaction as determined by Post-Project survey.
• Good to Excellent/Peer evaluation(s) for Project Architect and Project Manager I
• Excellent to Superior/Peer evaluation for Project Architect and Project Manager II
• Superior/Peer evaluation results.
• Proactive marketing activities.
• Individual utilization ratio and utilization ratio(s) of supervised employees.
• Accuracy of completed drawings and/or calculations
• Quickness and efficiency of document production
