UNC’s Facilities Planning & Design Department is seeking to hire an architect as a project manager to join the growing Capital Planning and Project Management team.

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Planning & Project Management, the Project Manager will provide management services to campus partners to ensure that design and construction projects are on schedule, within budget, respond to program needs and comply with or exceed UNC and State Construction Office standards and expectations.

In particular, this position will be responsible for the planning and management of formal capital projects.  Projects may include the planning and design of new buildings, repairs and renovations of existing buildings, additions, major infrastructure and open space improvements.  This involves, but is not limited to, budget and schedule preparation, designer selection, contract negotiation, document review, monitoring of project progress and resolving situations that arise during design and construction.  

Daily activities will include working with contracted designers, campus partners, committees, authorities, contractors, and others to assure that projects are accomplished in accordance with established guidelines, master plans, policies, and procedures.  In addition, work may involve interpreting and assisting in the development of methods and policy relating to planning and design activities; ensuring project modifications are carried out in a timely manner; and related duties as required.

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Extensive knowledge of design and construction industry. Ability to build consensus among divergent groups. Ability to develop initial scope, budget and schedule for formal Capital Improvement Projects; manage projects assigned to outside consultants; and review capital improvement projects for compliance with national and state codes, standards and University guidelines.  License to practice architecture in the State of North Carolina and a North Carolina Driver’s License or ability to obtain one prior to start date.
