POSITION DESCRIPTION:

We’re looking for a seasoned and dynamic architect to join our small and nimble team where each individual is a vital member of our organization. The Technical Director will oversee our firm’s technical direction, design, and production execution. In addition, you will regularly interface with our founding Principal and set the direction for our project team.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Quality

• Responsible for high project quality and deliverables based on sound architectural judgment.
• Establish standards for quality control, process improvement, and project documentation. Ensure firm-wide use of standards.
• At set project stages, review specifications, CAD/REVIT/BIM models, project documents, and design intent.
• Approve drawings for client review and approval phases, permit submittals, and construction documents for release to bidders.

Technical

• Oversee project deliverable thoroughness, completeness, and integrity. (Principal to sign and seal permit and construction documents.)
• Analyze building-zoning code for active and potential projects, review permit comments and provide construction administration support, including shop drawing review.
• In conjunction with staff, determine the project’s drawing approach, layout, number of sheets, and details.

Production

• Provide technical supervision to ensure that person-hour and schedule targets are met. In addition, provide coordination, so projects are performed in a logical sequence to minimize rework and scheduling conflicts.
• Establish design standards and procedures for an integrated design system, consultant coordination, contract, specifications, and construction document delivery.
• Perform technical evaluation of building models (both architectural and consultants) to develop workflow procedures that maximize productivity.
• Develop BIM production improvements, graphics, standards, and techniques to increase productivity and quality.

Client Retention & Business Development

• Review appropriateness of fees for various project types, fee proposal template, terms, and conditions, including indemnification clause and work scope clarity.
• Promote an internal culture where our team seeks a solid understanding of the client’s expectations so they can deliver well-executed project solutions that create heightened client satisfaction and repeat work.

Mentor

• Develop ways to build architects’ technical skill level, inspire efficient production, eliminate duplicate effort/rework and increase productivity.

Required Skillset

• 15+ years of project experience in an architectural practice
• Strong technical knowledge of relevant building codes and accessibility requirements
• High proficiency in REVIT software required
• Experience with RHINO and 3dMax preferred
• Experience with ADOBE Suite – including Photoshop, Acrobat, and InDesign
