The School of Architecture seeks a Manager of Architectural Visualization and Classroom Instruction to provide technical and administrative management of the School's computing resources and facilities. The incumbent manages an IT Specialist and the daily operations of the School's computer infrastructure, and offers dedicated support for all aspects of technology for faculty, staff and students at the School with responsibilities in the following areas:
All software, including Windows and Mac operating systems, and other curricular, design studio, and research-related applications;
Digital media/modeling/ fabrication and output (printers, large-format plotters, scanners, and other digital/multimedia equipment);
Classroom hardware and technology for the School of Architecture; and
Faculty and staff hardware, and administrative devices.
This individual works closely with the School Administrator/Department Manager on the School's IT budget and special IT projects. The Manager also works collaboratively and has dedicated working knowledge and experience with the specialized technology related to digital fabrication and modeling. The incumbent will leverage technology to find solutions for all business and technology needs within the School and has a strong interest in learning about new technologies as they evolve.
The Manager serves as the primary liaison to The Office of Technology (OIT) and the SCAD/DCS Program for technical issues and will attend monthly SCAD/DCS meetings, trainings and other related forum organized by the SCAD/DCS Program in the Office of Technology. The position is full time and requires some weekend and evening hours.
Supports, maintains, and troubleshoots all software used within the School, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Code 42, AutoDesk Products, Vray Rendering by ChaosGroup, Rhino3D; page layout, animation, video editing, multimedia, and image processing using Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, and other University business/administrative applications including Jamf and Code42 for Mac and Windows computers
Administers and manages Windows 2012R2 virtual servers – software license server, print server with PaperCut NG print management system, and file sharing server
Administers Active Directory user and security domain accounts
Designs, maintains, and creates content for Wordpress websites, supports Communications Manager with the SoA Drupal website
Digital Media/Modeling/Fabrication and Output Support
Manages and maintains various printing and multimedia equipment, which includes Canon and HP printers, HP and Canon large-format plotters, large-format scanners, digital cameras and camcorders, projectors, photography/video equipment, a/v equipment, etc.
Manages and support digital fabrication and related software, including using scripting, coding, and other software tools for digital and/or fabrication designs using Python, Powershell and Applescript
Classroom Hardware and Technology Support
Supports and maintains technology use in all departmental classrooms, auditorium, and conference rooms, including equipment loans for school community
Liaises with Media Services, the Broadcast Center, and the Office of Design and Construction regarding classroom issues, repairs, upgrades, and user support
Oversees School's lecture/public programs series with multimedia staffing/setup/support
Manages School's equipment/supplies budget
Configure, supports, maintains and troubleshoots hardware issues within the School fo Architecture and at the Embodied Computation Lab, including the Computer Lab, plotters, printers, desktops/laptops
Surplus EOL hardware
Manages the budget for School's hardware
Makes recommendations to the School Administrator/Department Manager and Dean for hardware needs and acquisitions
A Bachelor's degree is required, preferable in architecture, industrial design, graphics or computer technology with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in desktop, multimedia and digital modeling/fabrication hardware and software support.
Experience and demonstrated knowledge in administering license and print servers, networked printers and plotters, macOS and Windows 10 operating systems, A/V equipment setup and administration, computer lab image deployment
Demonstrated experience with, skill in, and in-depth knowledge of two- and three-dimensional computer-aided design (CAD), computer graphics (Rhino 3D/RhinoCam, etc), Adobe Creative Cloud suite and technical expertise in the handling and support of 3D and large format plotters and color calibration tools
Experience in setup and maintenance of web design using Drupal and Wordpress.
Good customer service abilities, and comfortable working with a wide variety of software, hardware and issues.
Excellent time management and communications skills and a service-oriented attitude required.
Must be able to work effectively in a team environment with a diverse group of people.
Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to complete defined tasks and projects with little immediate oversight from superiors.
Proven track record of staying informed on the current trends and practices in IT and in architecture design technologies.
Ability to respond to occasional calls after hours as needed.
A Master's degree in architecture, industrial design, graphics or computer technology
Knowledge of the architecture field is a plus.
Experience working with faculty and staff on production and design is desirable.
Knowledge and experience with Arduino, physical computation, circuitry, or programming
Experience and demonstrated knowledge with digital fabrication and related equipment and software, including using scripting, coding, and other software tools for digital and/or fabrication designs.
