Industry City is looking for a Director of Design to lead its in-house Design team. The Industry City Design team is responsible for establishing and executing the aesthetic vision of Industry City for all of the architecture, landscape architecture, signage, wayfinding, lighting, streetscape improvement, environmental graphic, and interior design projects that take place throughout the development. The ideal candidate will have the following skills/experience:
Experienced project manager with ability to coordinate internal design team, consultants, and contractors throughout the design and construction process.
Proven leadership track record and experience leading project teams.
Ability to lead effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Track record of anticipating and resolving design problems before they arise in an effort to maintain project schedule and budget.
Strong designer with ability to quickly communicate concepts on a variety of scales.
Knowledge of current design trends in retail, food & beverage, and office spaces.
Knowledge of renovation and construction to and within existing industrial buildings. Ability to balance multiple projects and deadlines.
Ability to track and streamline the architectural design process from conceptual design through execution for multiple simultaneous projects.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Industry City is a six-million square-foot, 16 building redevelopment located in Brooklyn, New York. The complex is undergoing an ambitious multi-phase repositioning to transform historic industrial buildings into an urban campus comprised of 550+ businesses spanning tech, media, design, manufacturing and more. AECOM, Conde Nast, The Brooklyn Nets, Buck Media, ?WhatIF!, and West Elm are some of the companies that make up the dynamic innovation ecosystem at Industry City. The ground floors at Industry City are home to 50+ bars and eateries including a 40,000 square-foot food hall, James Beard award-winning Sahadi’s, and the recently opened Japan Village. Industry City’s ownership, the same that developed NYC’s Chelsea Market and millions of square feet across the country, is hands-on with development, management, leasing and events teams on-site.
Professional degree in Architecture (MArch or BArch).
6-10 years of relevant professional experience with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
Skilled in use of AutoCAD, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and 3D modeling software.
Architecture Registration preferred but not required.
