The City of Topeka (KS) is seeking qualified candidates for a Senior Plan Reviewer position.
This is a highly skilled plan inspection position that examines plans and specifications for compliance to City ordinances and adopted building code/regulations.
Primary duties include:
Performs reviews of building plans, details and specifications for complex commercial structures to verify compliance with building codes, standards and regulations concerning building code requirements governing the construction, alteration, repair and use of buildings and structures.
Partners with teams that include project design consultants and public service providers responsible for review and approval processing for commercial building permits including planning, building, engineering, utility and fire code officials and reviewers and inspectors.
Prepares and revises documents in pdf format using Bluebeam review software.
Provide technical assistance to architects and design consultants solving problems using creative thinking relative to new low rise buildings, complex buildings and redevelopment of existing buildings.
Provides support to Development Services Division’s general customer services and processing permit submittals.
Maintains a reporting method for updating DSD management with progress of projects and coordinates follow-up with projects.
Prepares building project design analysis for code compliance with currently adopted building codes utilizing the software resources adopted for use by the division.
Provides technical assistance to architects and design consultants relative to new low rise building projects, complex building and redevelopment of existing building projects.

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in architecture, engineering, construction science or a related field is required. A combination of education and experience can be substituted for the Bachelor's degree. Must have two years of related experience and must be certified as a plan reviewer for two years. Experience with design and code analysis in compliance with editions of the International Code Council’s International Building Code preferred.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and city insurable driving record, Kansas driver's license required within six months of hire date.
