The City of Oakland is currently recruiting to fill three Capital Improvement Project Coordinator vacancies within the Public Works Department.
The department is looking for an experienced project manager who is adept at overseeing and implementing capital improvement projects from project planning through construction completion to meet project budgets and schedules. This person will have a strong technical background in the design and construction of a variety of city structures. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, eager to learn, supportive of organizational objectives, able to take responsibility, and participates as an active member of the team. The selected incumbent will bring program support skills, project implementation, and oversight experience to the position; possesses the political acumen and well-rounded communication skills to work with client departments, the public/community, and intra-department staff in the development of Capital Improvement Program Budgets.
This management level position is responsible for the overall management of major projects in the Capital Improvement Program and integrates all phases of the work from the initial planning stages to the completion of construction and project closure. The Capital Improvement Project Coordinator ensures the timely delivery of cost effective, high quality projects in compliance with budgetary constraints that meet the needs of the client department. The duties performed involve the exercise of considerable discretion and latitude of judgment within established policies and procedures. A high level of independence and autonomy is required for this project leadership position.
This classification is distinguished from the higher level Capital Improvement Program Manager, which is a division head classification with responsibility for the overall administration of the Project Management Division.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION:
Any combination of education and experience that is equivalent to the following minimum qualifications is acceptable.
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, construction engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, other engineering field or a related field.
Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in the field of managing the design and construction of capital improvement projects, construction management, design management, architecture or closely related field, demonstrating experience and ability to manage, coordinate, and lead team members in the implementation of projects.
License or Certificate / Other Requirements: Possession of a valid California Certificate of Registration as an Engineer in civil or structural technical field, Architect or Landscape Architect, or Certified Project Management Professional is highly desirable.
