The Senior Project Architect is the person primarily responsible for leading StoryBuilt projects, from design through construction. Critical aspects of this role include owning the process, schedule and deliverables of one to three StoryBuilt projects per year, which may include a large master planned community. The Senior Project Architect must have a strong design background and ability to conceptualize designs at all scales, from master planning to building details. Under the supervision of department leadership, the Senior Project Architect is responsible for coordinating with StoryBuilt disciplines and third-party consultants, as well as providing quality control of all construction documents for their projects. They will manage and mentor production support employees and provide guidance to the architectural department on best practices and lessons learned.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
Land Planning / Schematic Design:
Create zoning analysis including and coordinate land plan with the Civil Engineer.
Iterate design concepts for buildings and land plans with department leaders.
Manage all presentations and present work to internal teams at StoryBuilt for approvals.
Design Development and CD's:
Act as the daily go-to for all consultants. Coordinate work with consultants and manage schedule.
Perform building code analysis and verify all code related items during the design and production of documents.
Manage construction document production and manage support staff workload, schedule, etc. While production of CD’s will not be the primary responsibility of this role, an extensive knowledge of construction document and specification best practices will be required. Some drawing/rendering production will be included in this role, especially during land planning and schematic design iterations.
Assist marketing team with materials for project sales / rentals.
Assist with permit process with materials, attending meetings and reviews as required.
Meet deadlines and communicate to department leadership and development team about all deviations to the schedule.
Review documents for clarity, compliance, and completeness at regular intervals.
Perform site visits as required by the project. Generate RFI’s and follow through/direct responses as required.
Manage and/or produce sketches and revisions as required.
Manage and/or review and log all submittals.
Coordinate all issuances with StoryBuilt Ops team.
Keep project management software up to date, including schedule and deliverables.
Be proactive on finding project solutions and be open to innovative approaches to complicated projects.

Due to Covid, our team will be working remotely through the end of the year, at the very least. We are open to candidates who live outside of Austin, TX, for the remainder of 2020, but would require the position to relocate to Austin during an agreed to timeline in 2021.
Bachelor (5 yr.) or Master Degree in Architecture.
Architectural license is preferred, but not required. Without license, position title will be Senior Project Designer.
12+ years working in an architectural office, with the following experience, both in design and project management:
6+ years designing projects. This contribution should be both in progressing the design concepts of others as well as being the key contributor to the design of architectural projects (including but not limited to buildings, communities, master plans, etc.)
Coordinating site design, civil engineering and extensive knowledge of local zoning codes.
Permitting buildings and extensive knowledge of building codes.
Coordinating work with a variety of consultants, from structural to envelope.
Working through design and production of drawings, from schematic design through construction documents, on a variety of building types.
Strong understanding of project pro formas and budgets.
6+ years of construction observation, including reviewing submittals and shop drawings.
6+ years experience in mixed-use and/or multi-family project types is preferred.
Presenting design work to clients and internal teams in a succinct, clear and professional manner.
2+ years leading a design studio or critical aspect of a design firm to assist in the successful execution of projects.
Software: Expertise in Revit, AutoCAD and Adobe Suite.
