The Director of Architectural Design is a hands-on designer responsible for the creation of design solutions for our homes and product enhancements for residential projects of all sizes. This role will be the “voice of design” and lead Woodside’s home design and architectural efforts. As a member of an integrated multi-functional team at the corporate office, the Director of Architectural Design will lead the creation of home plans that elevate the human experience through design, informed by customer research. Additionally, the role leads projects with exceptional design thinking, project imagery, design research, and project documentation. The role performs as the architect in all phases of the design and construction process, operating within established budgets, schedules, and programmatic requirements. This role is a blend of brilliant architect and passionate consumer advocate, who takes the initiative to determine ways in which to improve the customer experience.
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:
Lead and perform the architectural design efforts at Woodside Homes.
Understand customer research to recognize customer needs and desires and then design homes and living spaces to meet those needs and desires.
Provide conceptual design, schematic design and construction documents for new home designs and provide support for bidding and construction administration of those solutions.
Establish creative concepts that reflect Woodside’s vision and goals of providing exceptional lifestyle and customer experience through unique designs.
Work closely with both the corporate and onsite division teams on design, project scope and budget
Utilize consumer and market insights and effectively translate them into designs that exceed the expectations of our customers.
Identify and propose creative, innovative solutions to design challenges
Manage the growing internal design function as well as outside consultants
Lead and participate in design reviews of projects
Assist the marketing and sales teams in the preparation of materials and presentations to convey the value of the design to our customers
Conduct construction site visits, field verifications and meetings with trades
Identify workload issues, manage consultants, and assist in the completion of projects. This may include hands on work in any phase of a project.
Keep current on design trends and developments in the design industry.
Required/Preferred Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Architecture from a NAAB?accredited program or equivalent (required)
Licensed Architect (required)
3+ years of professional architecture experience as a licensed architect or equivalent (required)
Complete understanding of all phases of design delivery and construction (required)
Proficient in REVIT, AutoCAD, and other 3D modeling / BIM software (required)
Proven knowledge of building codes, energy codes, building materials, and construction details
Experience in construction documentation production
Possess a high level of visual and verbal communication skills (required)
Demonstrated creativity skills especially in Schematic Design and the ability to design solutions for specific customer needs and desires
Strong attention to design details
Proven track record of leading design teams in the successful execution of design driven projects
Ability to work on multiple projects and maintain effective communication
Understand trends, construction methods, finishes (required)
Effective verbal and written communication skills (required)
Self?directed, collaborative, and professional
Ability to contribute and participate in a highly collaborative team environment
Experience with residential architecture and construction
