The City of Topeka (KS) Planning Department is seeking an entry-level Plan Reviewer to conduct preliminary review of building and construction plans and specifications to ensure compliance with City ordinances and adopted building code/regulations. Prepares written reports concerning existing conditions and how current ordinances and building codes will affect the building/construction proposals.
Major duties include:
Examines building plans for all non-structural issues to insure compliance with locally adopted ordinances and building codes/regulations.
Conducts preliminary building investigations for proposed construction.
Consults with architects, engineers, contractors, developers and the public in regard to locally adopted ordinance and building codes / regulations.
Works closely with city staff and design professionals to keep projects moving forward for the issuance of permits.
The successful applicant will have an exceptional ability for:
Coordinating/managing multiple projects at a time.
Working and interacting with the primary customer base, i.e. participants in the construction industry, design consultant teams, developers, property and business owners, trades and general contractors etc. as well as with the public, personnel of multiple departments, divisions within the city, county and state.
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction science or closely related field and must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and city insurable driving record, Kansas driver’s license require within six months of hire date.
$23.79 per hour.
