Provides management, leadership and supervision for professional and technical design staff in planning, design and implementing improvements and repairs to City-owned buildings;
Prepares the Architectural Services Division annual budget and assures fiscal control on the approved budget;
Organizes and evaluates the Building Renovation Programs of the Capital Improvement Program providing recommendations and estimate preparation;
Directs staff in the collection of architectural and engineering field data for design decisions;
Directs the more complex technical architectural decisions, including resolution of complex architectural design problems;
Recommends policies and procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operations;
Confers with representatives of other City departments and community groups in design planning and execution;
Directs the assignments and scheduling of architectural projects through the professional subordinate staff;
Supervises staff, including assessing staff performance, planning and recommending staff training needs;
Oversees the preparation of specifications and drawings for contracts to be bid;
Reviews and recommends acceptance of low bids and alternative bids on construction contracts regarding contractors’ responsiveness and qualifications for performance of specified work;
Recommends approvals of agreements and changes to agreements during the design construction of projects;
Assumes responsibility for assignments and scheduling of construction assignments through subordinate staff;
Oversees the quality assurance of construction of projects assigned to the division;
Attends to highly complex technical architectural construction decisions;
Reviews and approves shop drawings and recommends changes in work that become necessary during the course of a job;
Writes reports and correspondence and directs staff in effective documentation of projects.
Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Architecture and five (5) years of professional architectural experience, three (3) of which were as a principal architect or a project architect, directing, planning or design of Architectural projects.
