The Department of Architecture at Kansas State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position for the academic year beginning August 2019. In addition to teaching, a tenure-track faculty member must develop a focused scholarly/creative agenda as well as contribute service to the academic and professional communities. The appointment will be at the rank of assistant professor and salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications.
Design | Digital Technology The successful candidate will demonstrate interest and ability to teach architectural design studios across the curriculum. Entry-level studios require the ability to teach fundamental design skills, including spatial and formal composition, graphics, and modeling techniques, while upper-level studios require the ability to teach the design and technical skills necessary to resolve and document architectural intent from the urban scale to the detail. Demonstrated excellence in teaching architectural design studios and the capability of serving in a design studio leadership role are preferred.
She or he will demonstrate proficiency in the methods and software introduced in the department's established digital technology course sequence, which builds students' digital design and visualization skills via the Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, Rhino, 3ds Max, and Grasshopper. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach courses within this sequence and to integrate this technology into her or his design studio teaching. She or he will also demonstrate interest and ability to develop and teach seminars in their area of expertise, and this specialization will form the core of her or his scholarly/creative agenda. Preferably, the successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency in digital design (including, but not limited to, experience in fabrication, computation, 3d printing, or virtual- and augmented-reality).
Terminal professional degree in Architecture (Post-baccalaureate MArch or equivalent).
Professional practice experience in architecture sufficient to have fulfilled the internship requirement for licensure.
Interest and ability to teach architectural design studios across the curriculum.
Demonstrated proficiency in the methods and software introduced in the department's established digital technology course sequence, which includes Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, Rhino, 3ds Max, and Grasshopper.
Demonstrated ability to teach within the digital technology course sequence and to integrate this technology into her or his design studio teaching.
Interest and ability to develop and teach seminars in her or his area of expertise.

Extensive and creative professional practice experience in architecture.

Our design-oriented program is grounded in the 'making' of architecture. We focus on those aspects that lend a sense of built reality to an architectural idea. In support of this focus, we recently completed an extensive renovation of our facility, which now includes a dedicated virtual-reality lab, and a 20,000 square foot fabrication shop for woodwork, metalwork, and CNC fabrication: the latter including multiple 3-axis CNC milling machines and a 3-axis CNC plasma cutter.
The Department of Architecture at Kansas State University is a nationally recognized program offering a professional Master of Architecture and post-professional Master of Science in Architecture.
