Director of ADA Compliance Reporting to the Deputy Commissioner of Public Buildings, the Director of ADA Compliance will provide expert advice to Public Buildings, across all units, regarding compliance with, and implementation to satisfy relevant requirements of Chapter 11 of the NYC Building Code (formerly Local Law 59), ADA Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG), and to facilitate consistency in the agency's approach to accessibility. The Director will participate, as needed, in inter-agency and public meetings regarding Public Buildings’ capital projects, and as a member of a cross-functional committee comprised of representatives of DDC, DEP and DOT will analyze potential sites for accessibility renovation projects. S/he will provide high-level technical assistance to inform the process of selecting buildings for such work, and as appropriate, provide Public Buildings' employees with information regarding Chapter 11 and the ADAAG, to show their role in DDC's work on capital projects. The Director will interpret and apply Chapter 11, ADAAG, and all applicable federal, state, and local statutes and regulations, to provide guidance that will result in compliant design and construction of capital projects that align with the overall goals. In addition, s/he will provide consistent guidance regarding any proposals for waiver of requirements that may be necessary and appropriate for work in existing buildings. Participate with Senior Staff at DDC in informative and policy-making discussions, regarding technical and general aspects of accessibility (including the scope, design, and construction).
A valid New York State Registration as an Architect is required. Ten years of full time experience in operations, construction, management, or administration. In addition, candidates must have six (6) years of full-time paid experience in architectural work, at least two (2) years of which shall have been as an administrative architect.
