Job Description: The University of South Carolina is seeking an architect to serve the university as a planner and as an architect. The primary responsibility is to provide planning, design and stewardship to thoughtfully preserve and expand the university’s built environment. The position will manage pre-design to study project feasibility, define project objectives and project scope. The position will report directly to the University Architect and collaborate with the University Landscape Architect, Project Managers and other Facilities staff. In addition to Facilities staff, the role will naturally interact with all university departments including Academic, Administrative, Student Affairs, and Athletics. The role will also have responsibility for planning projects that affect our numerous historic structures. The role seeks an architect who can be sensitive to the demands of a large campus and who wants to broaden their professional horizon to include planning, landscape architecture, urban design, historic preservation and academia. We seek a candidate that values a long-term commitment to the university. Design leadership, ability to manage multiple projects, ability to prioritize, and ability to collaborate are essential skills. Architectural registration is not necessary to apply; however, advancement opportunities will eventually require registration.

Masters Degree in Architecture and 4 years of professional experience in planning, design and construction or 5-year Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture with 6 years of professional experience in planning, design and construction.
