NELSON is currently seeking Technical Designers (I, II & III) to work in our New York, NY office. The Technical Designers will be responsible for basic design and/or project construction documentation as assigned. Work with the project team and assist in the overall efforts for the successful completion of the design, documentation, construction and drawing projection of various project phases.
Technical Designer I - Perform basic design and construction document assignments as assigned by immediate supervisor and others as appropriate. Work with the project team and assist in the overall efforts for the successful completion of the design, documentation and construction of the project.• Prepare Concept, Schematic Design, Design Development and Construction Documents using current industry software and technology available• Assist other team members while conducting field surveys as required• Plot/Prepare drawings for digital transmittance to consultants, clients and/or contractor• Provide material, product, and system research and compile project data• Assist in the preparation of construction documents and specifications• Update design documents and incorporate “red lines” as needed• Additional responsibilities as requested
Technical Designer II - Responsible for basic project construction documentation working with project team to assist overall effort of completing various project phases. Provide support primarily in project administration, design development and drawing production in all phases. • Assist in the mapping out construction document requirements• Assist with selection and specification• Create basic details ability to document common architectural systems• Identify code requirements for common architectural systems, life safety, and ADA• Complete small construction document sets using predetermined client standards and templates• Basic knowledge of project budget and schedules and responsibility to adhere to set parameters• Ability to work more independently on smaller projects and with supervision on larger more complex projects• Additional responsibilities as requested
Technical Designer III – Responsible for developing, organizing and executing the development of construction documents utilizing creativity, foresight and judgment to meet project requirements and objectives through project completion. • Support the Project Manager in establishing project goals and objectives including workplan, schedule, budget parameters• Lead, facilitate and manage the overall design process for moderately complex projects independently and support larger complex projects under supervision• Contribute to developing fee proposals • Develop innovative design concepts which are practical, aesthetic, safe and conducive to intended purposes and function which is reflective of client goals and within project budget• Assists Project Manager in sub-contracting or the coordination of sub-consultants work• Serve as technical lead in keeping the project, or a phase of a project, on schedule in conjunction with Project Manager• Lead the Construction Administration phase responding to RFI’s, CO’s, reviewing shop drawings and involved in the field site reviews• Ensure project documentation is compliant with NELSON standard for all projects and processes• Additional responsibilities as requested
• Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or Interior Design
• Minimum of 2-7 years’ industry experience depending on Designer level
• Knowledge of design techniques, trends, tools, construction methodology, materials application and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness
• Knowledge of furniture, fixture and equipment (FF&E), architectural/interior finishes, lighting, art signage, color and materials
• Knowledge of building regulations, sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines
• Proficiency in AutoCAD/Architectural Desktop. Revit skills highly desired
