Boulder Associates Architects is in search of an interdisciplinary design researcher for full-time employment in any one of our California offices – San Francisco, Sacramento, or Irvine. A successful candidate will be self- directed, able to coordinate with multiple project teams at one time, and exhibit passion for human-centered design.
Education & Past Experience:
Graduate level education with academic training and/or experience in:
* Research methods and human subjects research training * Human factors (anthropology, psychology/cognitive science, sociology, public health, HCI) * Design (interior design, architecture, industrial design, engineering, computer science) * Innovation
Required Experience / Skills:
Applicants should show proficiency in at least one research area:
* Design research methodologies including: research planning, field work methods (including interviews and observation), quantitative, qualitative, and case study approaches, and analysis to inform design interventions based on specific patient/ resident populations. * Human measures * Building measures * Ability to conduct advanced statistical analysis * GIS * Proficient with Microsoft Office products. Experience with Revit, Bluebeam, Newforma, and Adobe CS a plus.
* Conduct literature searches and reviews to assist project teams with evidence-based design strategies, and prepare interview teams with latest healthcare trends pertaining to the project type. * Build people/process/environment simulations from data * Work with design teams to document pre-occupancy benchmarks, and later develop and conduct post-occupancy evaluations for Boulder Associates projects nation-wide. * Write knowledge pieces and literature summaries for internal education and use. * Develop toolkits for specific project types or treatment modalities that can serve as readily- available information to project teams * Stay abreast of current trends in preventative medicine, diagnostics, and treatment so as to advise design teams on evidence-based strategies * Develop surveys for data collection at the beginning of project to determine baseline conditions * Work with design professionals to conduct focus groups with patients, residents, staff, and providers. * Be an active participant in the design research community. Present research projects at state and national conferences. Submit papers for publication to peer-reviewed journals. Achieve or maintain EDAC Accreditation. * Search out funding opportunities and develop grant proposals * Document and submit research proposals for IRB review, staying engaged with the IRB through the approval process. * Advance our research tools * Manage and document data (including geo-spatial data). * Work with clients and design teams to plan and carry out data analyses. * Participate in proposal writing, client deliverables and research papers. * Create visualizations from data for inclusion in proposals, reports, papers and multi-media projects. * Travel will be required around the country for project work.
