Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario created to improve the coordination and responsiveness of all modes of transportation in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. The organization’s mission is to champion, develop and implement an integrated, multi-modal transportation system for the region. Metrolinx operates GO Transit, the regional public transit service, the downtown-airport Union Pearson Express and PRESTO, an enterprise-wide automated payment system. Its capital projects include GO Regional Express Rail, advancement of the York VIA Rapidway, Eglinton Crosstown, Finch, Hurontario and Hamilton Light Rail Transit.
Metrolinx is seeking a seasoned and experienced Vice President, Design Excellence, who will provide strategic direction and leadership to the Design Excellence division by ensuring the coordination and integration of design excellence functions of projects/programs across Metrolinx. The Vice President provides senior level technical expertise, functional leadership and strategic oversight in the planning and development of design principles, standards, guidelines and criteria for architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, wayfinding, integrated art, sustainable design, universal design, interior design and industrial design functions. This is to support Sponsors’ project/program requirements and to deliver a consistent and high-quality customer experience through design. The Vice President, Design Excellence leads by example in fostering a high-performing, innovative, collaborative culture, capable of adapting to growth and change within a fast-paced environment, and delivering results aligned to the organization’s business plans and priorities.
You have a minimum of 15 years of senior management experience in progressively responsible senior leadership roles including developing corporate strategic plans and experience leading/managing teams delivering major design excellence projects (large urban, architectural and/or industrial design projects) as applied to structures, facilities, landscapes within transportation or other public-sector organizations. You have a degree in architecture, landscape architecture, sustainable/urban design, industrial/interior design, urban planning, economics, business or a related discipline – or a combination of relevant education, training and experience. A Master’s degree and/or professional OAA or OALA or RPP certification would be considered assets.
