About County of San Diego
The County of San Diego is governed by a five-member Board of Supervisors elected to four-year terms in district, nonpartisan elections. Each Board member is limited to no more than two terms and must reside in the district from which he/she is elected. The Board of Supervisors sets priorities for the County and oversees most County departments and programs and approves their budgets.
San Diego County covers 4,261 square miles, an area approximately the size of the state of Connecticut, extending 70 miles along the Pacific Coast from Mexico to Orange County and inland 75 miles to Imperial County along the international border with Mexico.
The Department of General Services (DGS) is primarily an internal service department within the County of San Diego. The DGS ensures that other County departments have the necessary workspaces, services and vehicles to accomplish their own business objectives. These services range from real estate leasing and acquisition support to capital improvement and architectural planning; from facility maintenance and repair services to security management; from vehicle acquisition and maintenance to refueling services.
