This position manages district capital construction projects with a focus on the overall project management process. The position supervises construction and remodeling projects for the District by facilitating and reviewing District Best Practices manual and design phases, construction drawings, performing field inspections, supervising the work of contractors and consulting staff, maintaining progress reports and logs, monitoring completions, deadlines and expenditures, and resolving problems. This is a full time year round position; salary range of $76K - $89K (with increments depending on relevant experience at time of hire); with additional supplemental pay (education stipend) of $1,461. medical/dental/vision insurance; excellent pension plan options; 5 weeks’ vacation and 12 sick days. Bachelor’s degree in architecture, civil engineering, construction project management, or closely related field. Minimum five years of increasingly responsible experience in both planning and construction management of public projects, preferably in public works environment. An associate’s degree in a related field plus 10 years of experience may substitute for bachelor’s degree.
Professional license in architecture, engineering, landscape architecture is desirable but not required. Required to be on-call during construction projects. Valid Washington State driver’s license.
Ability and experience managing multiple project budgets, contract writing, fee negotiation, and change orders. Skill in construction scheduling, managing construction projects, supervising, selecting, monitoring, and evaluating contractors and consultants. Skill in site inspection.
Skill in conflict mediation and problem resolution. Excellent quality customer service skills. Demonstrated skills in written and oral communications.
Demonstrated ability to relate and work effectively with staff and community. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multi?cultural, diverse socioeconomic setting.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with contractors, consulting staff, and other regulatory agencies. Demonstrated knowledge of the construction trades, including carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, and other trades. Knowledge of commercial/institutional construction. Knowledge of codes, laws, regulations, rules, and policies governing school facilities construction. Effective decision-making skills.
Demonstrated proficiency using the personal computer and other technologies for communications, project management, graphics, calculations, and general office functions. Experience with industry standard software i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Cost Estimation software. Autocad experience desirable.
Experience in school facilities desired.
Ability to promote a sense of accountability to others regarding the expenditure of taxpayers’ resources.
