The City of Everett is currently accepting applications for the appointive position of Associate Engineer/PE Structural Plans Examiner. Under the direction of the City Building Official or other departmental supervisor, candidates perform professional-level structural engineering work in the analysis and inspections of construction projects. Review of the work lies in the accuracy and efficacy of the finished product, and the promptness with which operating deadlines are met. Extensive background checks will be conducted.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Review residential and commercial plans for conformance with applicable codes while providing a high level of customer service in working with designers, contractors, developers, homeowners and citizens.
Occasionally inspect residential and commercial structures for compliance with construction codes, including fire- and life-safety provisions.
Review plans and design calculations for complex structural systems used in a broad range of buildings.
Work collaboratively with staff from other departments.
Develop good working relations with the general public and make difficult and sometimes unpopular decisions.
Maintain an awareness and application of safe working procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS The following knowledge, skills and abilities are essential and critical to successful performance in this position: Knowledge of:
Structural engineering including construction practices, principles and procedures.
Construction codes to include the International Building, Existing, Residential, Mechanical and Property Maintenance Codes.
City organization, operations, policies and objectives.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION
Graduation from an accredited school with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering AND
A minimum of four (4) years of experience in structural engineering AND
Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of Washington, or the equivalent license from another state. If licensed in another state, WA PE license must be obtained by comity within six months of hire.
